The ready availability of "off-the-shelf" numerical
hydrological modelling packages has
seen a proliferation of surface water and
groundwater models in the engineering
industry. However modelling without
first having an understanding of how a
hydrological system operates
is fraught with pitfalls.
The development and appropriate documentation
of conceptualisations prior to modelling
can also minimize criticisms by third
parties that models are "black
boxes".
EHA places emphasis on developing appropriate conceptualisations
as a vital precursor to numerical modelling.
